Camper x Bernhard Willhelm Himalayan Sneaker
The cult Camper collaboration that made a zigzag-soled hiking sneaker feel surreal.
Story & heritage
Bernhard Willhelm worked with Camper on footwear from 2008 to 2015. PAPER describes Camper’s Himalayan boot as launched in 2009 with Willhelm, then revisited ten years later as an iconic sneaker makeover.
The 2019 anniversary version was presented as part sock, part sneaker, with Interview noting black-and-white combinations for the reimagined Himalayan while earlier retail imagery preserves the yellow camouflage colorway.
Materials & craft
PAPER describes the original Himalayan with tubular rope laces and multi-material uppers; the later versions highlighted zigzag outsoles and minimalist uppers in furry jacquard fabrics.
How to choose & style
Let the sole do the work: wear it with cropped trousers, technical socks, or an otherwise plain look so the exaggerated lace and zigzag profile stays central.
