Story & heritage
Brooks Brothers’ official history for the BB#1 Rep Tie traces the style to early-20th-century British regimental ties, then says the house Americanized the look in 1902 by reversing the stripe direction. The brand frames the BB#1 pattern as an enduring classic worn by presidents, pop-art stars and the Ivy League set.
That directional stripe makes the tie more than a color accent: it is a small, repeatable code for Brooks Brothers tailoring, oxford shirts and campus-influenced American dress.
Materials & craft
The current BB#1 tie is made from 100% silk, woven in Italy and dry-clean only. Brooks Brothers describes a 17-step making process involving folding, sewing, shaping, pressing, tagging and bar-tacking silk, tipping and interlining.
How to choose & style
Choose burgundy, navy or red for the most traditional read. The tie is strongest against a white or blue OCBD, a navy blazer and khaki or grey trousers; avoid over-styling and let the stripe carry the heritage signal.
