Established at 30 Avenue Montaigne and backed by businessman Marcel Boussac, Dior's first collection — its nipped waist and full skirt christened the New Look by Harper's Bazaar editor Carmel Snow — is credited with reviving the French fashion industry after the war. The first perfume, Miss Dior, followed in 1947, named for Christian's sister Catherine.
After the founder's death in 1957, the studio passed through Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri, with Jonathan Anderson taking the helm in 2025. Bernard Arnault bought the company in 1984; today Christian Dior SE is the holding company that controls LVMH.
