CustomMade is an online custom jeweller — built from a marketplace where people commissioned personalised pieces from independent artisans, now focused exclusively on custom jewellery.

Co-founders Michael Salguero and Seth Rosen, who met as undergraduates at Boston University, bought the custommade.com domain in January 2009 for $140,000 and rebuilt the business with backing from Google Ventures and First Round Capital. It was acquired by Wayfair in 2015, before founder Seth Rosen re-purchased it in 2017 to concentrate on the custom-jewellery business.

Custommade• shopping FAQ

Is Custommade worth it?+

For a shopper drawn to Scandinavian dressing with a bit more colour and print than the usual minimalism, it tends to land well. Founded in Copenhagen in 2002 by Christian Dam, the label leans on fabrics chosen for how they feel and on designs meant to outlast a single season. You are buying considered everyday pieces rather than fast fashion, so the value shows up when a printed dress or a mohair jumper keeps reappearing in your rotation year after year.

Is Custommade good quality?+

The house describes itself around not compromising on quality and design, and head designer Anne Rasmussen is known for focusing on fabrics with a rich hand-feel, such as wool and mohair knits. As with any contemporary brand the experience varies by piece, but the intent is durability and a tactile finish rather than disposability. Reading the fabric composition on a given style is the best way to judge before you buy.

Is Custommade actually a Danish brand?+

Yes. Despite the English-language name, Custommade is a Danish house founded in Copenhagen in 2002, and its identity is rooted in Scandinavian design. The name nods to the founder's dream of making clothing that feels considered and personal rather than literally bespoke tailoring, so do not expect a made-to-measure service; it is a ready-to-wear label with a Copenhagen sensibility.

Who designs Custommade?+

The label is creatively led by founder and creative director Christian Dam, working with head designer Anne Rasmussen. Rasmussen's hand is most visible in the emphasis on tactile fabrics and timeless shapes given a contemporary edge. That pairing of founder vision and a dedicated head designer is part of why the collections feel consistent in tone from one season to the next.

What is Custommade best known for?+

It is best known for womenswear that pairs Scandinavian restraint with print and texture, think printed dresses and skirts, refined blouses, and luxurious wool and mohair jumpers. The aesthetic is often called poetic or dreamy, balancing simple sophistication with a playful, charming streak. If you want one signature to picture, it is the elevated knit and the easy printed dress.

Who is Custommade designed for?+

The house describes its customer as an independent, modern-minded, cosmopolitan woman who wants simple sophistication. In practice that means someone who likes Scandinavian ease but appreciates a print, a special knit or a fabric with character. If your wardrobe leans toward elevated everyday pieces rather than loud trend-driven buys, the range will feel familiar.

How does Custommade compare to other Danish brands?+

Where some Copenhagen labels chase pure minimalism or streetwear, Custommade sits a little warmer and more romantic, with more print, knit and tactile fabric in the mix. It positions itself as affordable luxury rather than top-tier designer pricing, so it offers a Scandinavian look without the steepest price tag. Think of it as the print-and-knit alternative within that crowded Danish field.

Does Custommade sizing run true?+

Custommade follows standard European womenswear sizing, but fit varies by silhouette, especially across its dresses and relaxed knits. Because the range mixes fitted blouses with looser, dreamier shapes, it is worth checking the cut described for a specific style rather than assuming one size carries across the line. When in doubt, the brand's own size guide for that piece is the most reliable reference.

How should I care for Custommade knitwear?+

The wool and mohair jumpers that the label is known for reward gentle handling: follow the care label, favour cool hand-washing or a wool cycle, and dry flat to protect the shape. Mohair in particular can shed a little when new, which settles with wear. Treated this way, the tactile knits that are central to the brand's appeal will keep their loft and feel for years.

Is Custommade a sustainable or considered brand?+

The house frames its work around making clothes meant to last season after season rather than chasing fast turnover, with care taken over materials and finishing. That longevity-first approach is the most concrete sustainability angle on offer. If certified credentials matter to you, look at the specific materials and any labels on an individual product rather than relying on the brand story alone.
