Everlast

From a Bronx swimsuit to the most recognizable name in boxing — built to last, by definition.

Everlast
Re-checked daily
Founded in the Bronx in 1910 by 17-year-old Jacob Golomb, Everlast began making swimwear guaranteed to outlast a year — and named the brand for the promise, 'Everlast.'

The pivot to fight sports came in 1917, after a young Jack Dempsey asked for headgear that could survive more than 15 rounds. Everlast went on to outfit Roberto Durán, Joe Frazier, Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard and — above all — Muhammad Ali, becoming the most recognizable boxing brand in the world.

Today an American sports-equipment company focused on boxing, MMA and fitness, Everlast makes gloves, protective gear, punching bags and rings, plus a clothing and footwear line. Boxing equipment is made in Moberly, Missouri; in 2007 the British retailer Frasers Group acquired Everlast Worldwide, later launching the Everlast Gyms chain.

Everlast shopping FAQ

Are Everlast boxing gloves worth it?+

Everlast is the dependable workhorse of boxing gear: a long-trusted name that balances performance and price. It may not match the hand-built feel of a premium Mexican maker, but for training, fitness and most everyday use it delivers solid protection and durability. For a first pair of gloves, that mix of reputation and value is hard to beat.

How do Everlast gloves compare to Cleto Reyes?+

Cleto Reyes is the handcrafted, pro-favourite splurge, prized for premium leather and comfortable padding. Everlast leans the other way: a reliable, value-driven choice with a long-standing reputation behind it. If you prioritise craftsmanship and are happy to pay more, Reyes wins; if you want a trusted, sensible all-rounder, Everlast is the safe call.

Why is Everlast the most recognizable boxing brand?+

It earned that status by gloving up legends. Everlast sponsored Roberto Durán, Joe Frazier, Marvin Hagler, Larry Holmes, Sugar Ray Leonard and, most famously, Muhammad Ali. Generations of championship fights carried its logo into the ring and onto television, cementing it as boxing's signature name.

Did Everlast really start out making swimwear?+

It did. In 1910, 17-year-old Jacob Golomb, a tailor's son and avid swimmer, founded the company making swimsuits built to outlast the competition, and named them "Everlast" because he guaranteed they would last more than a year. The boxing empire came later. The name itself is a promise about durability that predates the gloves.

When did Everlast start making boxing gear?+

Everlast moved into the ring in 1917, after a young Jack Dempsey asked for headgear tough enough to survive more than fifteen rounds. That single request pulled the swimwear maker into fight sports for good. From headgear it expanded into the full range of boxing equipment the brand is known for today.

What products does Everlast actually make?+

Everlast covers the whole fight-sports kit: boxing gloves, protective gear like head and body protectors, mouthguards and hand wraps, plus punching bags, punch mitts and even full boxing rings. It also runs a clothing and footwear line of tees, hoodies, shorts and sneakers. The range now spans boxing, MMA and general fitness.

Where are Everlast boxing gloves made?+

Everlast's boxing equipment is made at a factory in Moberly, Missouri, while many other products are manufactured outside the US by licensees. The brand historically also produced gear in the Port Morris section of the Bronx until 2003. So the core boxing line keeps a genuine American manufacturing base.

Who owns Everlast now?+

Everlast is an American brand that has changed hands over the decades, including Ben Nadorf's long ownership through the 20th century and a 2000 acquisition by the Active Apparel Group. Since 2007 it has been owned by the British retail group Frasers Group (formerly Sports Direct). The brand itself remains rooted in its New York origins.

Is Everlast taken seriously in MMA, not just boxing?+

Yes. Everlast expanded into mixed martial arts and has been named Best Technical Equipment Brand at the World MMA Awards five times, most recently in 2016. That recognition shows the brand is more than boxing nostalgia. It competes credibly in the modern combat-sports market.

How did the big Everlast logo on the gloves come about?+

It was a deliberate marketing move. After founder Jacob Golomb died, his son Daniel took over and enlarged the Everlast logo on the gloves specifically to make it more visible on television. That oversized wordmark became one of boxing's most familiar sights. It is a small detail that helped build the brand's outsized fame.
