Hanna Andersson is a Portland, Oregon children's apparel company founded in 1983 by Swedish-born Gun Denhart — started, like many great brands, in the garage of her home.
It began as a mail-order catalog retailer, sending out its first catalog in 1984 before opening a brick-and-mortar store in 1990; co-founder Tom Denhart served as creative director until 1995. The brand became known for bright, happy designs and its matching family pajamas, with over 60% of its products OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified and many made with organic cotton.
Gun Denhart was as known for her values as her designs — family-friendly workplace policies and the donation of 5% of pre-tax profits to children's causes, earning her Oregon's 2013 'Woman of Achievement'. The company has passed through several owners, sold for $175 million in 2001 and to L Catterton in 2016.
