Kurt Geiger is a luxury British footwear and accessories brand, named after its Austrian founder and fashion designer of the same name.

The house runs three brands of its own making — Kurt Geiger London, KG Kurt Geiger and Carvela — sold through around 70 stores plus department-store concessions including Harrods and Selfridges. Its headquarters sit on Britton Street in Clerkenwell, a 1970s building remodelled in 2009 and finished in a distinctive Pompeian Red.

Neil Clifford has led the company as CEO since 2003, expanding it well beyond the UK. After a 2008 management buyout the brand passed through The Jones Group, Sycamore Partners and Cinven, which bought it for £245 million in 2015; in February 2025 US house Steve Madden acquired it for £289 million.

Kurt Geiger shopping FAQ

Is Kurt Geiger worth it, and is the quality good?+

For a brand that sits between the high street and full luxury, Kurt Geiger tends to deliver where it matters: the leathers feel rich and the hardware is satisfyingly heavy. Opinions vary by style, and a few shoppers find the playful pieces priced ambitiously, so judge each item on its leather and finish. If you love the colour and the wink of the eagle, most buyers feel they get their money's worth.

Which Kurt Geiger piece should I buy first?+

The rainbow Kensington bag is the brand's signature and the easiest entry point, instantly recognisable thanks to the crystal-studded eagle head on the front. If you prefer footwear, a pair of embellished heels or a colourful sneaker captures the same maximalist spirit. Start with whichever you'll reach for most often, then layer in the accessories.

What is the rainbow eagle on Kurt Geiger bags about?+

The jewelled eagle head is the house motif, and on the famous Kensington it appears in rainbow-coloured crystals against the diagonal striped leather. It is the detail that makes the bag read as Kurt Geiger from across a room. Think of it as the brand's signature flourish rather than a fashion-season trend.

Should I get the mini or the regular Kensington bag?+

The mini is undeniably cute but holds little more than a phone and a card wallet, so it suits evenings out rather than full days. The regular and shoulder sizes carry far more while keeping the same striped leather and crystal eagle. If it's your only bag for the day, size up.

What lines does Kurt Geiger own?+

Kurt Geiger owns three in-house brands: Kurt Geiger London, KG Kurt Geiger and Carvela, all created by its own team. Kurt Geiger London tends to carry the boldest, most embellished pieces, while the others span more everyday styles. Checking which line a piece sits in is a quick way to gauge where it lands on the dressy-to-playful scale.

Where is Kurt Geiger from and who founded it?+

Kurt Geiger is a British footwear and accessories brand named after its Austrian founder and designer, Kurt Geiger. It is firmly a London label today, with its headquarters on Britton Street in Clerkenwell. The distinctive deep-red building, remodelled in 2009 and finished in a shade called Pompean Red, is as bold as the collections.

Where can I shop Kurt Geiger in person?+

The brand runs around 70 of its own stores plus concessions inside department stores, including Harrods and Selfridges. It has also expanded abroad, opening two stores in Mexico City in 2023. Seeing the rainbow leather and crystal eagle in person makes the colour easier to judge than on a screen.

Who owns Kurt Geiger now?+

After several changes of hands, including ownership by the U.S. Jones Group and later the private equity firm Cinven, Kurt Geiger was acquired in February 2025 by the U.S. fashion company Steve Madden. Neil Clifford has led the business as Chief Executive since 2003, having joined back in 1995. That long stewardship is part of why the brand's identity has stayed so consistent.

How does Kurt Geiger compare to Russell & Bromley or Coach?+

Shoppers often place Kurt Geiger at the premium end of the high street, in the same conversation as Russell & Bromley, and a step below American houses like Coach in both price and leather. What sets it apart is personality: few rivals lean as hard into crystals, rainbow stripes and the eagle motif. If you want statement over stealth, that's the trade-off in its favour.

How should I care for my Kurt Geiger crystal-embellished pieces?+

The metallic and patent leathers wipe clean easily, but the crystal eagle and any embellishments deserve a gentler touch, so avoid soaking or scrubbing them. Store bags stuffed and upright, away from direct heat, to keep the striped leather from creasing. A dust bag does most of the protecting for you between wears.
