Story & heritage
Miu Miu and New Balance began their partnership in 2021, debuting a distressed 574 on the runway at the brand's Spring 2022 Paris show. The collaboration then turned to the 530, which Miu Miu reworked with an ultra-slim sole — the 530 SL — pairing razor-thin soles, suede-and-mesh uppers and contrasting double laces into a silhouette that retailers and rivals scrambled to copy.
The look became one of the defining sneakers of its moment, and in 2025 New Balance and Miu Miu were named Collaboration of the Year at the FN Achievement Awards — a recognition of two brands meeting at the peak of their cultural powers.
Materials & craft
The 530 SL trims the original 530's running-shoe bulk down to a low, elongated profile: a suede (or suede-and-mesh) upper over a slimmed gum or rubber sole, finished with the New Balance N at the side and a miu miu logo tab on the tongue. Its signature detail is the doubled, contrasting lacing — two sets threaded together — that became the most-imitated element of the whole collaboration. Online-exclusive seasonal colourways keep the line in constant rotation.
