The brand began as a tie specialist and broadened into a full menswear house when dress shirts joined the line in 1990; the family's later success even spawned Talbott Vineyards. After Robert died in 1986, Audrey ran the business until her death in 2004, after which their son sold it on — first to Relevant Brands Holdings, and since 2021 to Hong Kong-based supply-chain firm Newtimes Group.
The house celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2025, the same year its flagship reopened at 501 Madison Avenue in New York. Its 'Hand Sewn' neckwear is still made in Monterey, California. Former Eton Shirts creative director Sebastian Dollinger joined in March 2024, and the brand returned to Pitti Uomo that June.
