Started by Stuart Trevor and Kait Bolongaro as a wholesale menswear brand selling to Harvey Nichols and Harrods, AllSaints opened its first stand-alone store off Carnaby Street on All Saints Day in 1997 and added womenswear the following year. Rapid global expansion followed, including its first US store in New York around 2009–2010.
After near-collapse, the company was rescued in 2011 when Lion Capital took a majority stake, steadying the business that today runs hundreds of stores across more than two dozen countries. In 2021 the brand integrated New York menswear label John Varvatos, also owned by Lion Capital.

For a style-led city jacket, it tends to land well. AllSaints' leathers use real hide rather than faux, with solid YKK-grade hardware and a soft, modern silhouette that layers and photographs beautifully. They're cut for everyday wear rather than motorcycle-grade protection, so with regular care many owners get years out of them. The best value usually shows up during the brand's sale periods.
AllSaints cuts on the slim, contemporary side — closer through the chest and shoulders than heritage labels — so many people find them snug. Because the leathers are largely handmade, sizing can genuinely vary between pieces, even within the same model and size. If you can, try on more than one and size with your usual layers in mind rather than trusting the number alone.
It's better than its dramatic, dimly-lit stores might suggest. The leather pieces in particular are regarded as dependable for their price tier, with genuine hide and sturdy zips. Quality does vary by line and material, so the heavier leather styles are the safer bet if longevity matters to you more than the lookbook drama.
Above all, its leather jackets and a dark, edgy, rock-leaning aesthetic. The brand sells menswear, womenswear, footwear and accessories across 281 stores in 27 countries, but the moody leather biker is the piece most people picture first. It launched its first comprehensive handbag line, 'The Capital Collection,' in September 2015.
It's a double reference. The label was named after founder Stuart Trevor's nickname 'The Saint' — from his initials ST — and after All Saints Road in Notting Hill, London, where he spent much of his time. Fittingly, the first stand-alone store opened off Carnaby Street on All Saints' Day in 1997.
AllSaints was founded in London in 1994 by Stuart Trevor and Kait Bolongaro, who was the original womenswear designer and later co-founded Bolongaro Trevor. It began as a wholesale menswear brand selling exclusively to high-end retailers like Harvey Nichols and Harrods, opened its first shop in 1997, and added its first womenswear collection in 1998.
The private equity firm Lion Capital, headed by Lyndon Lea, has controlled AllSaints since 2011, when it and Goode Partners bought a 76% stake for £105 million and effectively saved the company from collapse. Peter Wood, who has worked at AllSaints since 2010, became CEO in 2018.
Twice it came close. By April 2011 the company was £53 million in debt after rapid expansion and the collapse of its Icelandic backer Baugur Group, before Lion Capital's investment rescued it. Then, following the 2020 pandemic, AllSaints filed for Chapter 15 bankruptcy in the US and entered a company voluntary arrangement in the UK to restructure its store rents.
In 2026 it emerged from the Epstein files that AllSaints chairman and owner Lyndon Lea, of Lion Capital, had maintained a friendship with Jeffrey Epstein after Epstein's 2009 release from prison. The emails describe Lea attending a dinner connected to Epstein's circle and being introduced to a young woman who was later given a role at AllSaints. The reporting concerns Lea personally rather than the brand's products.
Music has been the brand's strongest cultural thread since it was founded. AllSaints has collaborated with acts like Kings of Leon, Blonde Redhead and the Dum Dum Girls and runs a live performance series, 'The LA Sessions.' It's even been name-checked in lyrics by Tinie Tempah and by Jay-Z on Justin Timberlake's 'Suit & Tie' — a level of musical co-sign few high-street labels can claim.
Yes. AllSaints is a member of the Better Cotton Initiative and in 2020 joined the British Retail Consortium's pledge to reach net-zero emissions by 2040. It has also run a Not For Sale partnership against human trafficking and supports charities including Shelter, the Kaleidoscope Trust and Black Minds Matter UK.
The New York menswear label John Varvatos was bought by AllSaints' owner Lion Capital in 2020 and integrated into AllSaints the following year. So if you see Varvatos referenced alongside AllSaints, it's because the two now sit under the same ownership, with Varvatos positioned as the more upscale menswear arm.
