Marcus Wainwright and Nathan Bogle co-founded Rag & Bone in New York in 2002, marrying a craft-driven approach to denim and tailoring with a downtown sensibility.

The label launched with menswear in 2004 and added women's the year after; footwear arrived in 2008, including the Newbury boot. Its campaigns became part of the appeal — Kate Moss fronted the first in 2012, and a serial Photo Project later cast everyone from Michael Pitt to Mikhail Baryshnikov and Mark Hamill.

Rag & Bone collected a run of CFDA honours, including the Emerging Talent Award in 2007, and now sells through its own stores and more than 700 shops worldwide. Since April 2024 the brand has been owned by Guess? and WHP Global, with design shared between Jennie McCormick and Kyle Sweeney.
