Story & heritage

The DM1-1 Japanese Cargo is one of the core garments named in the brand’s public history, and its Origins page says it was derived from a Swedish army deadstock item in the Applied Art Forms archive.

The brand kept the archive trouser’s leg volume but added pleats at the waist and darts at the hem to make the shape wearable, with a large rear patch pocket as the utility reference.

Materials & craft

The Origins page records earlier DM1-1 versions in Japanese Cordura, high-density Japanese canvas and 10oz Japanese selvedge denim; the current official listing for the black cargo gives 100% cotton and Portuguese manufacture.

How to choose & style

Let the volume do the work: cuff once for the full utility line, twice for a cropped summer shape, and pair with shorter jackets or compact knits so the trouser remains the visual anchor.
