Werner Baldessarini, an Austrian designer and businessman, joined Hugo Boss in 1975, became chief designer, and led the company from 1998. Under his direction the house launched the more youthful HUGO line, Boss Orange in 1998 and Boss Woman in 2000 — and, in 1993, the upmarket Baldessarini label for men.
In 2004 the Baldessarini brand was spun off from Hugo Boss AG as a subsidiary, moving its headquarters from Metzingen to Munich. In 2006 it was sold to its namesake and then on to Ahlers AG in Herford; since 2023 it has been managed under the R.Brand Group, with fragrances among its longest-running lines.
