Story & heritage
Carbone is the signature scent of Les Éternels de Balmain, the fragrance collection Balmain Beauty launched as a new era for the house — a line that reinterprets four legacy scents from the maison's archive (Vent Vert, Ivoire, Ébène and Carbone) for the modern era, building on the perfume heritage that began with Pierre Balmain's first fragrance, Jolie Madame, in 1949.
Olivier Rousteing has called Carbone his 'baby' — the musk fragrance with a special place in his heart. It is built around an assertive duality of maximalist musk and minimalist rose, the heady mix of tobacco, suede, cumin and rose that the house frames as a study in individuality.
Materials & craft
Carbone belongs to the Musk family of Les Éternels. Its notes layer white musk, rose neo-absolute, suede, patchouli, sandalwood and cumin — the white musk lightening a darker, sensual base while the neo-absolute rose carries one innocent face and one irreverent, tinged with a tobacco haze. The flacon is a lacquered black glass block, deeply ridged, with a gold BALMAIN PARIS / CARBONE label and a round cap embossed with the PB labyrinth monogram; the bottle is refillable.
How to choose & style
Carbone is the heart of the Les Éternels line — a unisex musk built for presence, where the rose keeps the musk from going too dark. The Eau de Parfum is the core expression; the refillable bottle and the PB-embossed cap make it as much an object as a scent. As Rousteing's signature, it is the most direct way to wear the house at skin level.
