Second-hand Adidas Superstars rebuilt with Bethany Williams’ waste-material collage.

The official project page says Helen Kirkum Studio worked on custom sneakers for Bethany Williams’ AW20 No Recourse to Public Funds collection.
The collaboration aligned with Adidas’ 50th anniversary of the Superstar, and selected pairs later appeared in the Design Museum’s Beazley Designs of the Year 2020 exhibition.
Materials & craft
Helen Kirkum rebuilt second-hand Adidas Superstars donated through the Adidas Infinite Play Initiative.
The reworked elements used deadstock fabric scraps, offcuts and waste materials from AW20 development, including waste from tents, the toy industry, samples and scraps.
How to choose & style
Let the sneakers act like a collage at floor level: they work with raw denim, wide shorts and simple socks.
Because each pair is asymmetrical, avoid over-matching the colours and echo the handmade texture instead.
