Blackwood — of Jamaican and Chinese descent, raised between New York and Tokyo — started selling on-trend secondhand clothes at Crossroads Trading while saving to build his brand. He purchased his LLC in 2013 with help from his mother and a friend, and launched his first handbags in 2015, picked up early by Essence, Elle and Galore.
International notice came in 2020. Wanting to take a stance with the Black Lives Matter protests, Blackwood created a mini-tote reading 'End Systemic Racism' and donated a portion of proceeds to the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. Only 509 were planned; thousands sold. His bags have since been seen on Lupita Nyong'o, Zoë Kravitz, Cardi B and Kim Kardashian.
