Born in Longview, Texas, and trained in photography, Brandon Maxwell assisted stylists before becoming Lady Gaga's fashion director in 2012. He debuted his eponymous womenswear label in 2015 with a focus on craftsmanship — designing entirely in New York and crafting garments by draping rather than sketching for an ideal fit.
Worn by Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Nicole Kidman and Viola Davis and sold at Saks, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, Maxwell won the 2019 CFDA Award for Womenswear and the 2020 AAFA Designer of the Year, and was a finalist for the 2016 LVMH Prize. He has also judged Project Runway.
