Story & heritage
Car Shoe was founded in 1963 by Gianni Mostile and became known for a signature moccasin with tiny rubber nubs. The brand earned a patent from the Italian Ministry of Industry and Trade, which is why the driving shoe is not a later add-on to the house — it is the house's origin story.
The current official product description still frames this model as the first-ever driving shoe, patented in 1963. Its easy, preppy line keeps the shoe close to the original idea: a deconstructed moccasin made for pedals, weekend roads, and relaxed tailoring rather than formal dress codes.
Materials & craft
The Original is made with Car Shoe's cucita su forma tubular construction, described by the brand as a sewn-on-the-last technique that takes 800 steps per pair. The suede upper is finished with waxed stitching, a smooth apron-toe seam, and a dark-toned dotted rubber sole inlaid into the bottom for flexibility.
How to choose & style
The light suede version is the cleanest entry point: wear it with linen trousers, washed denim, or soft tailoring where a loafer would feel too polished. Size and colour matter more than shine here — the shoe looks best when it reads relaxed, close to the foot, and a little sun-faded.
