Story & heritage

The fluid silk blouse is one of Chloé's oldest and most enduring codes. The house was founded in 1952 by Gaby Aghion on the then-new idea of luxury prêt-à-porter, and by the early 1960s the signature silk blouse had become an essential part of the Chloé wardrobe and attitude.

It is the garment most associated with the "Chloé girl" — a free-spirited, romantic Parisian femininity that ran from Karl Lagerfeld's 1970s collections through to the airy flou aesthetic the house carries today. The ruffled crepe de chine blouse is its contemporary expression.

Materials & craft

This iteration is cut from silk crepe de chine, the lightweight, fluid silk that gives the blouse its movement. A gathered ruffle cascades down the deep-V neckline, the sleeves are billowy and gathered into tie cuffs, and the whole garment is built to drift rather than hold a shape — the essence of the house's flou sensibility.

How to choose & style

The Chloé blouse is the soft centre of the look — cream and ivory are the classics, worn open over wide pleated trousers or a fluid skirt the way the house styles it. The ruffle and billowing sleeves carry the romance, so the rest can stay simple. It is less a single product than the whole "Chloé girl" idea distilled into one garment.
