Aghion and her partner Jacques Lenoir ran the house until 1985, showing the first collection at the Café de Flore in 1956 and hiring young talents who became names in their own right. Karl Lagerfeld became its defining designer, and Chloé grew into one of the symbolic brands of the 1970s, worn by Jackie Kennedy, Brigitte Bardot and Grace Kelly.
Acquired by the Richemont group in 1985, Chloé has been shaped by a remarkable line of artistic directors — Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo (whose Paddington became one of the first 'It' bags), Clare Waight Keller and Gabriela Hearst, with Chemena Kamali its creative director since 2023. The house keeps its youthful, bohemian aesthetic and a celebrated line of fragrances.
