Mountain-born luggage from California — built for travelers since 1975.

Eagle Creek
Re-checked daily
Founded in 1975 by Steve and Nona Barker in the San Jacinto Mountains of California, Eagle Creek is an American luggage maker that grew out of a shop selling custom mountain packs.

The Barkers ran a retail store called Mountain People before starting production in a 1,500-square-foot facility in Solana Beach, California. Over the decades the brand evolved from custom packs into an international travel-gear wholesaler distributing across Canada, Europe and beyond.

Eagle Creek was acquired by VF Corporation in 2007. After VF announced it would retire the brand in 2021, former VF executive Travis Campbell stepped in to acquire Eagle Creek and keep it alive.

Eagle Creek shopping FAQ

Are Eagle Creek packing cubes worth it?+

For frequent travellers who want their bag organised, they tend to earn their keep. Eagle Creek's cubes are praised for feeling sturdier and more refined than cheaper alternatives, with thoughtful touches like compression and mesh panels. They cost a little more than basic cubes, so the value is really about durability and longevity over many trips rather than a one-off bargain.

How does Eagle Creek compare to Osprey?+

Both are well-regarded travel-gear brands aimed at serious travellers rather than the budget end. Eagle Creek leans into rugged, hard-wearing luggage and travel organisation, while Osprey is especially known for its packs and technical detailing. Neither is throwaway gear, so the choice usually comes down to which specific bag or feature set fits your trips.

Is Eagle Creek good quality luggage?+

It has built its reputation on durable, travel-ready gear since the 1970s, and that toughness is what owners most often point to. As an established American luggage maker, the brand is built around the demands of real travel, so the quality reputation is well earned, though as always it is worth checking the specific product and any current warranty terms before buying.

Where is Eagle Creek from?+

It is an American brand. Eagle Creek was founded in 1975 in the San Jacinto Mountains of California, and today it is headquartered in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. From those California roots it has grown into an international wholesaler distributing to Canada, Europe and beyond.

Who founded Eagle Creek?+

Steve and Nona Barker founded Eagle Creek in 1975 in the San Jacinto Mountains of California. They had been running a retail store called Mountain People selling custom mountain packs, and production began in a modest 1,500-square-foot facility in Solana Beach, California.

Who owns Eagle Creek now?+

The brand has changed hands more than once. It was acquired by VF Corporation in January 2007, but in 2021 VF announced it would retire the brand. Later that year, Travis Campbell, the former president of emerging brands at VF, acquired Eagle Creek, including all of its assets and liabilities, taking it forward independently.

What is Eagle Creek best known for?+

Travel luggage and packing organisation. The brand grew out of a background in custom mountain packs and has long been associated with durable, well-organised travel gear designed to make packing easier. That focus on the practical realities of travel is its signature.

Which Eagle Creek product should I start with?+

If you are new to the brand, packing cubes or a single piece of carry-on luggage are the natural entry point, since organisation is exactly where Eagle Creek's reputation sits. Start with the piece that solves your most common travel headache, then build out from there once you have a feel for the build quality.

Did Eagle Creek almost disappear?+

It came close. In June 2021, VF Corporation announced it would retire the Eagle Creek brand by the end of that year, citing strategic and financial difficulties. The brand was saved when Travis Campbell stepped in to acquire it in September 2021, which is why it continues today under independent ownership.

Is Eagle Creek a good choice for international travel?+

It is built with exactly that in mind. The company evolved from supporting California travellers into an international wholesaler distributing across Canada, Europe and other countries, and its gear is geared toward organised, hard-wearing travel. For long or frequent trips abroad, that durability-first approach is a reasonable fit.
