Story & heritage
The Chypre takes the house's H-strap vocabulary and rebuilds it for comfort and the city. Named after the island of Cyprus, it keeps the cut-out H across the toe but adds a wide, adjustable instep band and a cushioned, anatomically contoured footbed — a sportier, more substantial cousin to the flat Oran.
It became a runaway favourite precisely for that balance: the unmistakable Hermès strap on a shoe you can actually walk in all day. Where the Oran is delicate, the Chypre is grounded.
Materials & craft
The Chypre is made in calfskin (and in H-canvas-and-leather and exotic versions), with the toe H cut as on the Oran and a second wide band across the instep secured by a fastening with a metal ring. The footbed is moulded to the arch and embossed HERMÈS; beneath it sits a thick, lugged rubber sole for grip and cushioning.
It is produced to the house's specifications and offered for both women and men, the rubber sole and contoured bed making it the most wearable of the house's sandals.
How to choose & style
Gold and tan calfskin are the easy neutrals; black with the dark sole is the sharpest; white and canvas versions lean summer. Because of its cushioned bed and sturdy sole, the Chypre is the walk-everywhere choice — it dresses down with shorts and linen and holds its own with relaxed tailoring. It is the comfort sandal that still reads unmistakably Hermès.
