Story & heritage
The Oran is the house's defining sandal: a flat leather slide whose single strap is cut into the shape of an H, framing an open window across the foot. That one piece of negative space turned a simple mule into one of the most recognisable — and most imitated — shoes in luxury.
Designed under the house's shoe and jewellery direction, it has stayed essentially unchanged for years, a permanent fixture rather than a seasonal style. Its appeal is its restraint: the logo isn't applied, it's the shape of the shoe itself.
Materials & craft
The classic Oran is made in smooth box calfskin, with the H strap cut and stitched in a single span and the insole stamped HERMÈS PARIS. It sits on a slim leather sole with a low stacked heel, and is produced in suede, exotic skins and metallic finishes alongside the core calfskin.
It is made in Italy to the house's specifications, the contrast top-stitching along the strap a hallmark of the calfskin versions.
How to choose & style
Tan/gold box calf is the canonical choice — it reads warm and goes with everything; black is the sharp neutral; white and metallics lean summer. The Oran is a true flat, so it works under wide trousers and midi hems as easily as with bare legs. It is the easy, year-after-year sandal, bought to be worn rather than saved.
