Story & heritage
The H belt takes the same sculpted H that closes the Constance bag and turns it into a belt buckle — the house initial worn plainly at the waist. It became one of the most recognisable Hermès accessories precisely because of that legibility: a single letter doing all the work.
Sold as a buckle-and-strap kit, it is built around versatility. The buckle detaches, and the leather strap is reversible — two colours in one — so a single belt covers two looks, and a buckle can be paired with several straps.
Materials & craft
The buckle is cast in palladium-, gold- or matte-finished metal in the shape of the H, in widths most commonly 32mm and 38mm. The strap is reversible calfskin — typically black on one face and a contrasting tone (tan, blue, gold) on the other — and is swapped or flipped by releasing the buckle.
Both buckle and strap are made in France and sold separately or as a kit, so the components mix and match.
How to choose & style
The reversible black/brown strap with a swappable buckle is the most practical first choice — it covers formal and casual in one. Brushed gold reads warmest; palladium is the sharper, more modern finish; matte black is the most understated. Worn over tailoring or with jeans, it places the house's signature exactly where it reads clearest.
