Story & heritage
On its official page, John Lobb frames Philip II as a perfectly proportioned classic oxford with subtle punch detailing rather than overt broguing. It is also one of the few shoes the house spotlights in the By Request programme, which places it firmly inside the permanent canon.
Materials & craft
The page calls out fine punching accents, whole-cut quarters with a seamless back, prestige leather soles with sculpted waists and finely wheeled edges, and Goodyear welted construction. John Lobb also supplies the style with lime wood shoe trees.
How to choose & style
Philip II is the more ceremonious sibling to City II. It works best when the rest of the outfit is equally exacting: sharp suiting, evening-leaning tailoring and darker cloths that let the punched cap read as detail rather than decoration.
