Story & heritage

K-Swiss says the brand was founded in 1966 when Art and Ernie Brunner moved to California and used leather ski boots as the reference point for a court shoe built for tennis side-to-side movement. The result was the K-Swiss Classic, which the brand describes as the first all-leather tennis shoe manufactured in Los Angeles.

On the official product page, K-Swiss calls the Classic VN the fourth generation of that original and says it keeps the signature visual codes that made the line famous: five stripes, a D-ring lacing system, three-piece toe construction, and herringbone-brick outsole tread.

Materials & craft

The current Classic VN uses a leather upper with a textile tongue and collar, rubber outsole, IMEVA midsole, and Ortholite sock liner. K-Swiss also says the updated version upgrades materials and comfort with premium full-grain leather, recycled PET linings and laces, and internal components made with recycled ocean plastics.

How to choose & style

White-on-white is the purest read because it lets the five-stripe panel do all the work. It wears best with straight denim, pleated trousers, or tennis whites—anything crisp enough to echo the shoe's clean court heritage without making it feel costume-y.
