Story & heritage

The Bale bag is among the most poetic of Loro Piana's signature designs — its shape recalls the compression of the raw cashmere bundles, or bales, that remain foundational to the Maison's textile business to this day. It is a bag that turns the most basic unit of the brand's trade into an object.

Inspired by the sensoriality of cashmere bales, the Bale reduces branding to almost nothing, letting the sculptural, sinuous form carry the identity — the kind of craft-forward statement that defines the house's modern leather goods.

Materials & craft

It takes a full day to bring a Bale bag to fruition: after carefully selecting the hide, the Maison's artisans define the accessory's profile using a single piece of leather, worked slowly with precision to create its soft, sinuous shape. Crafted in Italy from smooth calfskin (with wicker and other materials in seasonal versions), it carries a rolled top handle, a gold-tone chain-and-toggle closure and a suede-lined interior; the Loro Piana signature is embossed low on the body. Offered in Micro, Small and Large.

How to choose & style

The Bale is the artful, occasion-leaning bag of the line — its bundle shape photographs beautifully and reads as a craft object. The Micro is a precise evening piece; the Small a compact day bag. Warm earth tones, brick and natural play to the heritage idea, while the wicker editions push it toward summer. It rewards being noticed close up.
