The founders met at a Manolo Blahnik store in 1985 and again at a New York farmer's market in 1999, bonding over a shared idea: a chic, durable, all-purpose bag that married the practicality of nylon with the sensibility of Italian leather. Zwirner brought experience from Gucci, BMW and Lancôme; Wallace Eustice from Harper's Bazaar, Elle and Manolo Blahnik. Today the brand is known for its sleek backpacks, crossbodies and wallets.
From a 2000 Manhattan storefront the label grew to wholesale partners including Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, with a store in Chicago and an online shop since 2004. MZ Wallace declines to discount through online sales to protect its value, and has been a certified B Corporation since April 2023.
