The line crossed to the United States in 1985 when Richardson-Vicks brought it over, and was taken over the same year by Procter & Gamble. Its breakthrough was Pantene Pro-V, a pro-vitamin and 2-in-1 formula first launched in Taiwan, then worldwide, behind a single idea: "Hair So Healthy It Shines."
The strategy worked on a global scale. By 1994, following its launch in 55 countries, Pantene was the world's No. 1 hair care brand with sales over $1 billion, and by 1998 it led in 90 countries. Current global ambassadors include Priyanka Chopra, Selena Gomez and Kelsea Ballerini.
