Re-checked daily
Peter Do (born 1990) is an American fashion designer who founded his eponymous label in 2018, after training under Phoebe Philo's Celine.

Do was born in Biên Hòa, Vietnam, and moved to Philadelphia at fourteen. He attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, graduated in 2014 winning the LVMH Graduate Prize, then worked at Celine and Derek Lam before striking out alone. His designs have been worn by Zendaya and Beyoncé.

From 2023 to 2024 he served as creative director of Helmut Lang, debuting a Spring/Summer 2024 collection rooted in accessible, high-quality wardrobe staples; The New York Times called it 'accomplished, accessible, and very commercial.' He left in November 2024 and launched a more affordable offshoot, PD-168, in 2025.

Peter Do shopping FAQ

Is Peter Do worth it for minimalist tailoring?+

If precise, pared-back tailoring is what you want, Peter Do is one of the most talked-about names in that lane. He built his eponymous label on refined cutting and quiet detail, and reviewers credit his debut for that house as accomplished and precise. You are buying design discipline rather than logos, so it rewards anyone who values cut over flash.

Should I buy from the Peter Do main line or PD-168 first?+

It depends on your budget and how you want to wear it. The eponymous Peter Do label is the full designer expression, while PD-168, launched in September 2025, is a more affordable offshoot. PD-168 is also deliberately practical: it uses only three fabrics across the line, all of them machine-washable, which makes it the easier everyday entry point.

Who is Peter Do?+

Peter Do is an American fashion designer born in 1990 in Biên Hòa, Vietnam, who moved to Philadelphia at age 14. He founded his eponymous label in 2018 and launched its offshoot, PD-168, in 2025. He is also known for frequently wearing a cloth face mask in public.

What is Peter Do's design background?+

It is a serious pedigree. Do attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, graduated in 2014 and won the LVMH Graduate Prize that year. He then worked at Phoebe Philo's Celine and afterward at Derek Lam before starting his own label, which helps explain the refined, restrained tailoring his clothes are known for.

Was Peter Do really the creative director of Helmut Lang?+

Yes. He was announced as creative director of Helmut Lang in May 2023 and officially debuted his Spring/Summer 2024 collection for the brand in September 2023 at New York Fashion Week. He left Helmut Lang in November 2024, so his tenure there ran from 2023 to 2024.

How was Peter Do's Helmut Lang debut received?+

It split the critics. He presented a vision of accessible, high-quality wardrobe staples rooted in practical luxury, and the collection drew mixed reviews. The Washington Post's Rachel Tashjian said his debut "stole the show" and called it "raw and precise," while The Cut's Cathy Horyn described it as "devoid of meaning," and The New York Times' Vanessa Friedman called it accomplished and commercial but missing Helmut Lang's old subversion.

What makes PD-168 different from other Peter Do pieces?+

Its whole pitch is wearable simplicity. PD-168 is restricted to just three fabrics across the entire line: cotton terry, supple jersey, and a Japanese 'liquid satin', and crucially all of them are machine-washable. That makes it the most low-maintenance, everyday-friendly part of Peter Do's world.

Which celebrities have worn Peter Do?+

His eponymous label has had a high-profile fanbase from early on. Wikipedia notes that his designs were worn by Zendaya and Beyoncé, which fits the brand's reputation for sharp, modern tailoring with broad red-carpet and editorial appeal.

How should I think about caring for Peter Do pieces?+

Read the line first. If you own PD-168, the brand designed it around cotton terry, jersey and Japanese 'liquid satin' that are all machine-washable, so everyday care is genuinely simple. Main-line tailoring is a different matter and should be treated as the structured, considered garments it is, so follow each piece's own care label.

Is Peter Do a good fit for someone who likes gender-neutral wardrobes?+

It leans that way. His work is widely associated with refined, androgynous tailoring, and even his Helmut Lang chapter was framed as accessible, high-quality wardrobe staples rather than overtly gendered statement pieces. If you build outfits around clean lines and versatile separates, the aesthetic suits that approach well.
