Launched in the United States in 1991 under a license with Simint, A|X Armani Exchange is the most accessible brand in Giorgio Armani's universe — fashion and lifestyle inspired by street-chic culture and dance music.

Where Armani Privé sits at couture and Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani show at Milan Fashion Week, Armani Exchange retails at lower prices and a younger pitch. An early adopter of the web, the line launched armaniexchange.com in 1995 and began online sales in 1997.

Today A|X Armani Exchange sells across 270 stores in 31 countries and online. Giorgio Armani co-established the joint venture Presidio Holdings in 2005 to support the line, added a Safilo sunglasses license in 2006, and ran campaigns with Cara Delevingne, Martin Garrix and Li Yifeng in 2017.

ARMANI EXCHANGE shopping FAQ

Is Armani Exchange the same quality as Emporio Armani or Giorgio Armani?+

No, and Armani's own structure makes that clear. Armani Exchange (A|X) is the most accessible tier of the house, sitting below Emporio Armani and the high-end Giorgio Armani lines on quality, construction and price. Think of A|X as the brand's everyday entry point rather than its tailored or couture work.

Is Armani Exchange worth it?+

It depends on what you want. If you are after the Armani name on casual basics like logo tees, jeans and accessories at an approachable price, A|X delivers exactly that. If you prioritise refined tailoring and materials, you will get closer to that intent by stepping up to Emporio Armani or Giorgio Armani instead.

What is the difference between Armani Exchange and the rest of the Armani lines?+

Armani is organised as a family of labels: the couture line Armani Privé at the top, then Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani as the ready-to-wear lines shown at Milan Fashion Week, with Armani Exchange selling at the lowest prices. A|X is the youthful, logo-forward casual line, distinct from the dressier Emporio and Giorgio tiers.

Which Armani Exchange piece should I buy first?+

Start with the pieces the line is built around: a logo T-shirt, a pair of jeans or a small accessory. These are A|X's bread and butter and the clearest way to wear the Armani name day to day without stepping up to the pricier tailored lines.

When did Armani Exchange launch?+

A|X Armani Exchange launched in 1991, when the company entered a manufacturing and distribution license with Simint. It arrived as the house's accessible, casual diffusion line, well after Giorgio Armani founded the parent company in 1975.

Who founded Armani, and where?+

Giorgio Armani founded Giorgio Armani S.p.A. in Milan in 1975, together with his partner, architect Sergio Galeotti. The story goes that some of the seed money came from selling Armani's Volkswagen Beetle. Armani Exchange came later as one of the group's labels.

Is Armani Exchange Italian?+

Yes, it belongs to Giorgio Armani S.p.A., an Italian luxury fashion house headquartered in Milan. As of 2017 the group was considered Italy's second-largest fashion group, behind Prada. A|X carries that Italian house identity at its most accessible price point.

Who owns Armani now?+

The brand was still led by its founder, Giorgio Armani, until his death on 4 September 2025 at the age of 91. His succession plan involves the Giorgio Armani Foundation, which he established in 2016 to safeguard the group's governance and is required to retain a significant stake to protect the brand's independence and legacy.

Why is the Armani name so popular?+

Giorgio Armani built one of the defining Italian luxury houses, spanning haute couture, ready-to-wear, leather goods, shoes, accessories and home interiors, with the name also licensed for eyewear and fragrances. Armani Exchange channels that recognisable identity into casual, everyday clothing, which is a big part of A|X's appeal.

How should I care for my Armani Exchange clothes?+

Because A|X leans on casual staples like printed tees and denim, treat them as you would good everyday pieces: wash cool, turn logo and graphic items inside out, and avoid high-heat drying so prints stay crisp. Always follow the garment's own care label, since fabrics vary across the range.

Is Armani Exchange good for gifting?+

It can be a smart choice. A|X puts a globally recognised Italian name on approachable items such as logo tees, accessories and watches, which makes it an easy way to give an Armani-branded gift without the price of the Emporio or Giorgio lines.
