Story & heritage
The Unicorn is Balmain's signature statement sneaker, part of the futuristic footwear programme Olivier Rousteing built to carry the house into streetwear. Its silhouette is unmistakable — a low-top upper framed by a hollow, air-cushioned sculpted sole that looks carved rather than moulded.
Alongside the B-Court and B-Bold, it is one of the trio of sneakers that defined Balmain's modern shoe identity, balancing the maison's couture polish with a forward, technical sole architecture.
Materials & craft
The Unicorn is built from top-grade calfskin leather and durable neoprene panelled into a sleek low-top, laced through an integrated cage and carrying a small gold-tone Balmain charm at the tongue. The defining element is the air-cushioned sole — a sculptural unit with a hollow cut-out beneath the heel — finished with BALMAIN PARIS embossing along the sidewall. It runs in leather, neoprene-and-leather and neoprene 'Wave' versions.
How to choose & style
The Unicorn is meant to anchor a look rather than disappear — its sculpted sole carries the outfit, so it pairs best with relaxed, pared-back pieces. All-white is the cleanest, most versatile read; the neoprene and bicolour versions lean sportier. It is the house's answer to the chunky-sneaker era, done with Balmain's gold-and-architecture vocabulary.
