Story & heritage
The Iris Heliana Coat is one of the clearest expressions of Biyan’s decorative coat language: transparent organza, floral appliqué and beading in a wearable tea-length layer.
Biyan Wanaatmadja founded the BIYAN label in 1984 after European fashion training and early atelier work in Surabaya; current retail presentations continue to frame the house around Indonesian craft, romantic detail and couture-level embellishment.
Materials & craft
Santa Fe Dry Goods lists a sheer silk-organza weave, floral symmetrical appliqué with serged line work, bead embellishments that render iris flowers, side-seam pockets, notch lapel, button-down closure, long sleeves and a tea-length hem. The fabric is listed as 100% silk with attached 100% polyester, made in Surabaya, Indonesia.
How to choose & style
Wear over a column dress for evening or over trousers for an artful day look; because the coat is sheer, the underlayer should be intentional.
Black-on-black keeps it ceremonial, while ivory or deep blue underneath makes the iris work easier to read.
