Story & heritage

The Jodie reached Bottega Veneta stores in early 2020 and takes its name from Jodie Foster — who in the 1990s was photographed shielding her face from paparazzi with a soft, slouchy Bottega hobo. Daniel Lee revived that crescent hobo shape, wrapped its handle in a single hand-tied knot, and rendered the whole bag in the house's Intrecciato weave.

It became one of Lee's signature pieces and a fixture of the quiet-luxury moment, reinterpreted across mini, teen and medium scales and in countless leathers and finishes. The knotted handle — equal parts craft flourish and recognisable code — made the Jodie instantly identifiable without a single logo.

Materials & craft

The Jodie is woven entirely in Intrecciato — strips of nappa lambskin threaded through one another by hand to build the bag's body and its rounded handle. The handle's defining detail is a single knot, tied from the woven leather itself, that sits where it meets the body. The hobo crescent has no rigid frame, so it collapses softly under the arm; a magnetic or zip closure keeps it shut. Suede and metallic-leather versions apply the same weave to different surfaces.

How to choose & style

The Mini is the going-out Jodie — carried in the hand or hooked over the wrist, it holds the evening's essentials and reads as jewellery-adjacent. The Teen and Medium slide onto the shoulder for daytime. Black and chocolate Intrecciato are the most enduring; caramel and tan lean warm and heritage; the gold and metallic versions are pure occasion. Whatever the size, the bag is meant to slouch — it looks best a little soft and lived-in.
