The Garden Party is Hermès at its most utilitarian — an open tote that pairs hardwearing canvas with leather, made to carry the day rather than make a statement. It descends from the house's luggage and travel heritage, scaling that practicality down into a shopper.
Where the Kelly and Birkin are guarded by waitlists and locks, the Garden Party is deliberately easy: a bag to fill with a laptop, a change of clothes or a market haul. Its quietness is the point — it carries the house's craft without announcing it.
Materials & craft
The bag combines a woven cotton-canvas body (the toile) with calfskin trim, handles and base, or is made entirely in Negonda calfskin. Leather straps run vertically up the front; side tabs — the clou de selle saddle snaps — can be popped to widen or narrow the silhouette, and a central snap closes the top.
It is handmade in France, the canvas and leather chosen for durability, and offered in the 30, 36 and larger 49 (Voyage) sizes.
How to choose & style
The 36 is the everyday work-and-travel size; the 30 is neater for daily errands. The canvas-and-leather versions read the most casual and are the lightest to carry; all-leather Negonda dresses it up. Orange canvas leans into the house's signature colour; navy and étoupe are the easy neutrals. It is the rare luxury tote that looks better slightly overfilled than empty.
