Re-checked daily
J.Lindeberg was founded in 1996 by Johan Lindeberg, who left his post as marketing director at Diesel to launch his own brand — debuting that summer in Stockholm and New York simultaneously.

The first concept, '21st Century Lifestyle', mixed menswear with golf, and to push the idea Lindeberg turned to PGA-tour player Jesper Parnevik. Acclaim followed fast: Swedish Elle named him Designer of the Year in 1999 and the Guldknappen award for Most Innovative Designer in 2000. By 2002 turnover had reached 219 million kronor across 500 stores, and the brand had been worn by Bono, Brad Pitt and Justin Timberlake.

After a 2007 restructuring brought in Proventus, the company has since 2012 been owned by Bestseller founder Anders Holch Povlsen with partners. Today J.Lindeberg runs over 215 stores worldwide, designing from its Stockholm head office across fashion, golf, ski and active wear.

J.Lindeberg shopping FAQ

Is J.Lindeberg golf clothing worth it?+

For golfers who want their kit to look sharp as well as perform, it tends to be. The brand built its reputation on fashion-forward design backed by genuine sportswear engineering, and the fit and finish are a big part of the appeal. You are paying a premium for the styling and Scandinavian polish, so it's most worth it if those matter to you.

How does J.Lindeberg compare to a brand like Galvin Green?+

They're both premium Scandinavian golf names but with different strengths. J.Lindeberg leans into design, slim tailoring and a fashion sensibility, while peers like Galvin Green are best known for serious all-weather waterproofs. If your priority is style and fit on a fair day, J.Lindeberg is the more fashion-led pick; for full storm protection, a specialist waterproof brand may suit you better.

Is J.Lindeberg just a golf brand?+

No, golf is one part of a broader range. The Swedish label covers golf, ski and active wear alongside fashion pieces like polo shirts, jackets, suits and shirts. It still offers all of those collections today, so you can dress for the course, the slope or the street within the same brand.

Who founded J.Lindeberg and what's the backstory?+

It was founded in 1996 by Johan Lindeberg, who had been marketing director at the Italian denim brand Diesel before leaving to start his own label. He launched it in Stockholm and New York City simultaneously that summer, with a small design team headed by Roland Hjort, recruited from H&M.

What was J.Lindeberg's original design concept?+

The first concept was called 21st Century Lifestyle, shown in New York during Fall/Winter 1997 fashion week and combining men's fashion with golf clothing from the very start. That fusion of catwalk styling and golf is the DNA the brand still trades on.

Why is J.Lindeberg so associated with golf?+

The link goes back to the founder's early strategy. To develop the golf side of 21st Century Lifestyle, Johan Lindeberg turned to PGA Tour golfer Jesper Parnevik, helping put the brand on the fairway from the late 1990s. That tour connection helped establish it as golfwear that didn't look like traditional golfwear.

Is J.Lindeberg actually Swedish?+

Yes. It is a Swedish clothing company, and the design head office for all its collections is in Stockholm, where the international design team is based. So while the brand sells worldwide, including a Chinese business, its creative centre of gravity is firmly Scandinavian.

Does J.Lindeberg make ski wear too?+

It does. Under its Future Sports concept the brand introduced a ski collection, first shown with the Fall/Winter 2005 season in Milan, with Swedish free skier Jon Olsson as its face. The ski line even won a Newcomer of the Year award at Germany's ISPO fair, so the cold-weather range has real pedigree.

Who owns J.Lindeberg now?+

Since 2012 the brand has been owned by Anders Holch Povlsen, founder of the retail group Bestseller, together with Dan Friis, Allan Warburg and Stefan Engström. Under that ownership it has expanded globally, with over 215 branded stores and shop-in-shops and yearly brand sales of roughly 1.6 billion SEK.

Has J.Lindeberg won any design recognition?+

Early on, yes. Swedish Elle named it Designer of the Year in 1999, and in 2000 it took the Guldknappen (golden button) award as Most Innovative Designer. That critical acclaim came quickly after launch and helped cement the brand's reputation as a design-led label rather than just sportswear.

Has J.Lindeberg been worn by anyone notable?+

It has had a strong celebrity following. The brand has been worn on various occasions by the likes of Bono of U2, Brad Pitt, Justin Timberlake, Ashton Kutcher and bands including The Killers, which speaks to its early crossover between fashion and music as well as sport.
