In 1954, Ingemar Boman and Bengt Rosell opened the lingerie store Fynd in Alingsås, Sweden — the seed of what became Lindex.

The Lindex company of Gothenburg was acquired shortly after, lending its name to all subsequent stores. Through the sixties and seventies the assortment broadened from lingerie into women's wear, skirts, trousers and kids' wear. The 21st century brought huge international expansion into Central Europe and the Baltics, and in 2007 the Finnish listed company Stockmann became the new owner. Today Lindex is part of the Lindex group, headquartered in Helsinki, with its head office in Gothenburg.

Lindex now runs approximately 480 stores in 18 markets across the Nordics, the Baltics, Central Europe and the Middle East, with online shopping across the EU and Norway. The assortment spans women's wear, lingerie, kids' wear and cosmetics, with a Scandinavian-design ethos built on inclusiveness, fit and comfort. The company has collaborated with names including Narciso Rodriguez, Missoni, Matthew Williamson and Jean Paul Gaultier.

Lindex shopping FAQ

Is Lindex good quality?+

Lindex is a Scandinavian high-street chain, so quality tracks with that positioning rather than luxury. Many shoppers single out its loungewear, dresses and lingerie as good value with solid fit, while experiences can be inconsistent across the broader range. As an affordable everyday brand it is best judged piece by piece rather than as a single tier.

Where should I start with Lindex?+

Lindex began life as a lingerie store, and it is still the market leader in lingerie across Scandinavia, so that is a natural entry point. Its women's wear is built around Scandinavian design with an emphasis on fit, comfort and inclusiveness. If you are shopping for little ones, Lindex is also the kids' wear market leader in Sweden.

Is Lindex a Swedish or Finnish brand?+

Lindex was founded as a Swedish fashion chain in 1954, and its roots are firmly Scandinavian. Since December 2007 it has been part of the Finnish Stockmann Group, now known as the Lindex group, which is listed on Nasdaq Helsinki. So it is a Swedish brand under Finnish ownership.

How did Lindex get started?+

In 1954, Ingemar Boman and Bengt Rosell opened a lingerie store called Fynd in Alingsås, Sweden. Shortly after, they acquired the Lindex company of Gothenburg, and that name was eventually given to all the stores. The lingerie roots from Alingsås still define the brand's strength today.

Where is Lindex headquartered?+

Lindex's head office is in Gothenburg, Sweden, where around 400 people work across buying, design, marketing, IT, logistics and more. The brand operates roughly 480 stores across 18 markets in the Nordics, the Baltics, Central Europe and the Middle East. So while it is widely available, its design heart remains in Gothenburg.

What is Lindex's Female Engineering line?+

Female Engineering is Lindex's femtech brand, created to address needs that mainstream fashion often overlooks. Its range includes period panties, menopause clothing and products for maternity and post-partum life. It reflects the brand's broader focus on practical, inclusive womenswear.

What lingerie collections does Lindex offer?+

Beyond its core lingerie assortment, Lindex offers the Ella M and So.U collections, alongside socks, hosiery, nightwear and swimwear. Given that the company is the lingerie market leader in Scandinavia, this is the category where its expertise runs deepest. It is a sensible place to begin if you are new to the brand.

Does Lindex make clothes beyond womenswear?+

Yes. Lindex spans women's wear, kids' wear, lingerie and cosmetics, the latter under its Lindex beauty brand, plus maternity wear and accessories. Its kids' collections are organized by age group, from newborn through to the oldest children. That breadth is part of why it functions as a one-stop high-street chain.

Has Lindex collaborated with well-known designers?+

Lindex has a long history of designer collaborations, working with names such as Narciso Rodriguez, Missoni, Matthew Williamson and Jean Paul Gaultier over the years. It has also fronted campaigns with well-known faces in modeling. These tie-ups bring higher-fashion moments to its accessible high-street range.

Can I buy Lindex online outside the Nordics?+

Yes. Lindex began Shop Online in Sweden in 2007 and has since expanded its online availability widely, offering its assortment to all EU countries plus Norway. Its e-commerce reaches well beyond its physical store footprint. So even where there is no nearby store, the range is often accessible online.
