Raymond Weil

A family-run Geneva house, founded on a foldout bridge table and still keeping time in the family.

Raymond Weil
Re-checked daily
Founded in Geneva in 1976 by Raymond Weil and Simone Bédat, Raymond Weil Genève is a Swiss watchmaker that began, quite literally, on a foldout bridge table in a Geneva stall.

Weil sold his early designs — mechanical and quartz alike — to the more accessible end of the luxury market, and led the company until his retirement in 2002. Simone Bédat and her son left in 1996 to form Bédat & Co. The house stayed in the family: Weil's grandson, Elie Bernheim, has been CEO since 2014.

Recognition followed. In 2023 the brand had a resurgence when its Millesime Small Seconds won the Challenge Prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève, often called the 'Oscars' of watchmaking.

Raymond Weil shopping FAQ

Is Raymond Weil a good watch brand, and is it worth the money?+

Raymond Weil is a respected entry point into Swiss luxury that punches above its price. It's a genuine Swiss watchmaker with a real founder's story, and its classic, clean designs deliver the Geneva pedigree without the markup of the big houses. If you want a properly Swiss watch that looks the part and won't demand a five-figure budget, it's a strong-value choice.

How does Raymond Weil compare to Tissot and Longines?+

Shoppers constantly weigh these three, and Raymond Weil tends to land in affordable-luxury territory alongside them rather than competing with high-end Swiss names. Its appeal is dressy, understated styling and Swiss-made credibility at an accessible price. Which you prefer usually comes down to the specific model's look and finish, so it's worth trying the Freelancer or Maestro on the wrist next to the rivals you're considering.

When and where was Raymond Weil founded?+

Raymond Weil Genève SA was founded in 1976 in Geneva, Switzerland, by Raymond Weil and Simone Bédat. That Geneva birthplace is central to the brand's identity as a Swiss watch house. It's a relatively modern maison by Swiss standards, but firmly rooted in the heart of watchmaking country.

Is Raymond Weil still a family business?+

Yes, and that lineage is part of the charm. Raymond Weil led the company until his retirement in 2002 and died in 2014; his grandson, Elie Bernheim, has been CEO since 2014. So there's an unbroken family thread running from the founder to the person steering the brand today.

Who was Simone Bédat, the co-founder?+

Simone Bédat co-founded Raymond Weil with Raymond Weil himself in 1976. She and her son later left the company in 1996 to form Bedat & Co. It's a neat piece of watchmaking history: one founding partnership that eventually branched into two Swiss names.

What's the story behind how Raymond Weil started out?+

It began humbly. Raymond Weil initially sold his designs from a foldout bridge table at a stall in Geneva. The early line spanned traditional spring-powered and cog-and-gear mechanical watches as well as quartz models, marketed internationally toward lower-end luxury buyers. That accessible-Swiss-luxury intent has shaped the brand ever since.

Has Raymond Weil won any major watch awards?+

It has, and recently. In 2023 the brand enjoyed a resurgence when its Millesime Small Seconds won the Challenge Prize at the Grand Prix de l'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), an event often called the 'Oscars' of watchmaking. That recognition is a meaningful signal of the brand's craft credibility.

What is the Raymond Weil Millesime collection?+

The Millesime is the line behind the brand's headline-grabbing moment, since its Millesime Small Seconds took a Challenge Prize at the 2023 GPHG Awards. If you're drawn to Raymond Weil's recent recognition and a classic, refined aesthetic, it's a natural collection to explore first. Try it alongside the Freelancer and Maestro to see which dial style suits you.

Is Raymond Weil genuinely Swiss made?+

Yes. Raymond Weil is a Swiss luxury watchmaker founded and based in Geneva, the spiritual home of fine watchmaking. That Swiss provenance is a big part of why the brand offers such appealing value: you get authentic Geneva pedigree without paying the premium attached to the most famous Swiss names.

How should I care for my Raymond Weil watch?+

Treat it like the Swiss investment it is. Keep it away from magnets and sudden knocks, wipe the case and bracelet with a soft cloth to remove skin oils, and have a mechanical model serviced periodically by an authorised watchmaker to keep it running sweetly. With sensible care, a well-made Swiss watch like this is built to be worn for decades.
