EZM 1
The original Einsatzzeitmesser: sparse, left-sided, and made for a job before collectors discovered it.
Story & heritage
Sinn’s mission timers — Einsatzzeitmesser, or EZM — are made for professional users including special forces, fire service, divers and pilots. The EZM 1 is the collectible origin point of that line; WatchBuys notes that the EZM family began with the now highly collectible and valuable EZM 1.
Because it is an archive model, the EZM 1 is included here for historical canon rather than current availability. Its central chronograph reading and left-side controls became the visual shorthand for Sinn’s professional mission-timer idea.
Materials & craft
The archived EZM 1 is a purpose-built chronograph with left-side crown and pushers, central chronograph indication and a stark black dial organized for timing rather than decoration. Its design stripped away conventional sub-dial busyness in favor of operational readability.
How to choose & style
Treat the EZM 1 as the blueprint. Modern wearers looking for the same mood should look at the current EZM 3, EZM 12 or EZM 13.1; vintage examples deserve simple straps that keep the asymmetric case readable.
