Story & heritage
Brera II is part of Bontoni's official ready-made shop edit, a cap-toe derby that shows the small Marche workshop's preference for hand-coloured leather and expressive classic shapes.
We chose a hatch-grain leather for the ‘Brera II,’ a timeless cap toe derby. This special hatch grain leather is naturally tanned by a centuries-old process with tree bark and birch oil. Its signature crisscross-textured material is colored completely by hand to make it even more distinctive. Bontoni is one of just a few shoemakers in the world that have the technical skill and know-how to hand color this rare material.
Materials & craft
Official product details list Entirely handmade on our contemporary rounded toe, Hand-burnished whiskey hatch grain, Beveled waist, Goodyear construction, Leather sole, Lasted shoe trees included. Bontoni's craft pages describe a hand-led workshop process: leather is cut, sewn, lasted, welted, and finished through hundreds of manual operations.
How to choose & style
Brera II sits in the versatile middle: refined with tailoring, relaxed with knitwear and denim, and especially good where a standard dress shoe would feel too formal.
The rounded and chiseled Bontoni shapes like clean trouser breaks; avoid swallowing the apron or welt under heavy hems.
