Story & heritage
Brillantina is part of Bontoni's official ready-made shop edit, a cutaway monk that shows the small Marche workshop's preference for hand-coloured leather and expressive classic shapes.
The 'Brillantina' model features a cutaway strap combined with a single (whole cut) piece of leather, making it one of our most innovative designs yet. It took years of trial and error to fine-tune this intricate design. ‘Brillantina’s’ distinctive look, bold buckle, and beautiful contours have earned it a devoted cult following with serious shoe collectors such as the acclaimed style writer Hugo Jacomet.
Materials & craft
Official product details list Single cutaway buckle with hand-stitched apron details, Entirely handmade on our chiseled toe, Hand-burnished bruciato (burnt) calf, Hand-stitched Norwegian construction, Leather sole, Lasted shoe trees included. Bontoni's craft pages describe a hand-led workshop process: leather is cut, sewn, lasted, welted, and finished through hundreds of manual operations.
How to choose & style
Brillantina sits in the versatile middle: refined with tailoring, relaxed with knitwear and denim, and especially good where a standard dress shoe would feel too formal.
The rounded and chiseled Bontoni shapes like clean trouser breaks; avoid swallowing the apron or welt under heavy hems.
