Story & heritage
Breitling’s Classic AVI family points back to the brand’s aviation instruments and the mid-century Ref. 765 AVI, a co-pilot-style chronograph built for aerial navigation. The current line interprets that heritage through aircraft tributes such as the P-51 Mustang, Mosquito, Curtiss Warhawk and Vought Corsair.
It is the romantic pilot-watch counterpart to the calculation-heavy Navitimer: bigger numerals, a rotating bezel and warm leather rather than a slide-rule dial.
Materials & craft
This Classic AVI Chronograph 42 P-51 Mustang uses a 42 mm stainless-steel case, calfskin leather strap, cambered sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides, and Breitling 23, a self-winding mechanical chronograph with an approximately 48-hour power reserve. The model is rated to 10 bars.
How to choose & style
Classic AVI works when you want heritage without the Navitimer’s busy calculator dial. The black P-51 version is the easiest; green Warhawk and blue Corsair are more expressive. Wear it with leather, canvas, suede, denim and field tailoring.
