Story & heritage
The Superocean is Breitling’s sea watch. Breitling’s product story roots the line in the early scuba era: the original SuperOcean appeared in 1957 as diving moved from specialist work into sport and exploration.
The current Superocean keeps the tool-watch premise straightforward — high-contrast dial, broad hands, timing bezel and real water resistance — while shifting the line toward bright, beach-to-boat colour.
Materials & craft
This Superocean Automatic 42 uses a 42 mm stainless-steel case, rubber strap, cambered sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides, and Breitling Caliber 17, a self-winding mechanical movement with an approximately 38-hour power reserve. Breitling specifies 200 m water resistance for the model.
How to choose & style
The black-dial Superocean is the cleanest daily diver; the coloured straps are where the line gets playful. It is best worn casually — swim shorts, linen, denim, fleece — but the simple dial lets it handle a sport jacket better than many oversized divers.
