Story & heritage
Buccellati’s official Tulle page calls the technique one of the most complex in high jewellery and describes the design as levitating on an impalpable honeycomb texture. The Maison source also says the process pierces a sheet into a network of tiny polygonal holes.
Materials & craft
The official description says it can take nearly a month for a goldsmith to bore a half-millimetre gold plate by hand and shape minuscule hexagonal cells. Another Buccellati source states that each cell must be refined at least five times for regularity.
How to choose & style
Tulle is the connoisseur choice: it rewards close viewing, so rings and earrings are especially effective. Keep the styling quiet and let the perforated surface catch light.
