Now a Danish company based in Aarhus and owned by the Thornico Group, Hummel became Danish after a 1956 takeover by Bernhard Weckenbrock and has been part of Christian and Thor Stadil's Thornico since 1999. It makes apparel for football, handball, rugby league, futsal, basketball, volleyball and more, alongside everyday clothing and footwear and its fashion sub-brand, Hummel HIVE.
One of the oldest sportswear brands in the business, with roots in football and handball, Hummel has been worn by Real Madrid, Benfica, Aston Villa, Southampton and the Danish national team. In 2016 it created a hijab-friendly uniform for the women's Afghanistan national team, unveiled on International Women's Day.
