Big Pilot's Watch
The oversized crown, giant dial and seven-day swagger are pure IWC mythology.

Story & heritage
IWC's pilot-watch story reaches back to the 1936 Special Pilot's Watch and the 1940 Big Pilot's Watch, but the modern Big Pilot's Watch as collectors know it arrived in 2002. IWC calls it a model inspired by historical observation watches, and the line has since become the brand's clearest symbol of aviation-first design.
The appeal is straightforward: the large case, conical crown and instrument-panel dial make the watch feel purpose-built even when it is worn as a modern luxury object. Few contemporary watches project identity as quickly.
Materials & craft
IWC's Big Pilot family uses the manufacture 52000 calibre line, with Pellaton automatic winding, a seven-day power reserve and ceramic components in the winding system to reduce wear. IWC also specifies a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields, which keeps the watch tied to its tool-watch origins instead of treating them as costume.
How to choose & style
A Big Pilot works when the rest of the look gives it room: leather jacket, field coat, denim, brushed flannel, heavy knitwear. The watch is too assertive to disappear under a narrow cuff, so it reads best with substantial textures and simple colour palettes.
