Story & heritage
The Gift of Kings polo is woven from Loro Piana's The Gift of Kings® — described by the house as the world's finest wool, an exceptionally fine merino sourced from specially selected flocks in the meadows of Australia and New Zealand and processed in Italy. The name nods to the Spanish royal practice of gifting pairs of merino sheep to other sovereigns to honour relationships and seal alliances.
It is a knit that captures the maison's identity as a fibre house first: a plain polo whose entire value lies in the rarity of its yarn. Authenticity, traceability and ownership of the wool are digitally certified — a measure of how precious the raw material is.
Materials & craft
The polo is knit from The Gift of Kings merino, exclusively selected by Loro Piana with a micron count of only about 12 microns in diameter — so fine that a single 1kg cone of the yarn, unwound, stretches roughly 130 km. The result is a plain, lightweight knit polo with a soft collar and placket, made in Italy. The fineness of the fibre, not any embellishment, is the craft.
How to choose & style
The Gift of Kings polo is a refined alternative to a knit or shirt — fine enough to layer under a jacket, smart enough to wear alone. Navy and dark neutrals are the most versatile and let the fibre's subtle sheen show; lighter tones lean spring. Like the best of Loro Piana, it is a piece whose quality is felt rather than seen.
