Story & heritage

The Horsey is the Maison's very first outerwear icon, blending function and comfort with a timeless equestrian spirit. It debuted in 1992 as the first recognisable piece of Loro Piana outerwear, created for the Italian Equestrian Olympic team at the Barcelona Olympic Games — the start of the brand's long association with horse riding (it has collaborated with the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation since 1985).

Designed to be adjustable and adaptable for ultimate movement and ease, its defining detail is a notched zip flap that lets the jacket fold perfectly while sitting in the saddle. From an Olympic uniform it grew into one of the house's signature ready-to-wear pieces, reissued each season in new fabrics.

Materials & craft

The Horsey is built across the house's most technical and luxurious cloths — from linen-and-silk for spring to virgin wool and technical microfibre treated with Loro Piana's Storm System® for a wind- and water-resistant finish. The signature suede contrast collar, notched zip flap, drawstring waist and bellows patch pockets carry through the seasons, and the Loro Piana crest and signature are embroidered tonally at the collar. Made in Italy.

How to choose & style

The Horsey is a field jacket that dresses up or down — its equestrian cut and contrast collar give it character over knitwear and trousers, while the technical versions handle real weather. Navy with the tan collar is the most heritage-faithful reading; greens and stone tones lean country. It is cut for movement, so it layers easily over a sweater without bulk.
