The name itself — coined in the late 1960s from the family name Strehle and the French jeunesse — signalled the shift. Under the creative direction of Gabriele Strehle from the 1970s on, Strenesse came to mean pared-back women's ready-to-wear, later widening into accessories, fragrance and menswear, and showing in Milan from 1995.
At its peak the house dressed the Germany national football team at official appearances and designed uniforms for Lufthansa's flight and ground staff. After Strehle's 2012 departure and a long financial decline, the operating companies filed for insolvency in 2014 and again in 2019, and operations were discontinued in 2020; in 2026 the brand's site listed Munich-based Brand House Production GmbH as its operator.
