Story & heritage
The Niki, introduced by Anthony Vaccarello in 2018, plays the vintage card more openly than any other bag in the line. Its crinkled, patinated leather is treated to look already lived-in — soft, glossy and slightly aged from the first day — and the chevron-quilted flap is finished with a tonal Cassandre monogram rather than a bright metal one.
Where the Kate and Loulou polish the house's evening codes, the Niki softens them: it is roomy enough for a day's essentials and more, and its leather-and-chain strap and slouchy body read relaxed and worn-in. It quickly became one of the most carried bags of the rebranded Saint Laurent for exactly that reason.
Materials & craft
The Niki is crafted in crinkled vintage-effect leather — a calfskin treated and crushed to give a glossy, aged surface — over a soft, unstructured body. The chevron quilting runs across the flap; the YSL monogram is finished in a tonal or aged metal so it reads as texture rather than logo. The strap is a leather-woven chain that threads leather through the links, and can be doubled for the shoulder or dropped for crossbody. A front slip pocket sits beneath the flap. Made in Italy.
How to choose & style
The Medium is the everyday Niki — roomy, soft, and easy to overfill. Black with aged silver or tonal hardware is the most versatile, leaning into the bag's worn-in character; the leather-woven chain keeps it from feeling too formal. It suits relaxed tailoring, denim and outerwear — a bag built to look better with use, carried on the shoulder rather than in the hand.
